Live Review: Thurston Moore @ The Marlin Room of Webster Hall
One of the many beautiful things about New York City is that the weekend never actually begins on Friday, it is a lot like college, the weekend's begin on Thursday. So, when Pandora and Norton decided to throw a party inside the tiny Marlin Room of Webster Hall and had Thurston Moore and his band perform, it should come as no surprise that there was a line wrapped around the block for people waiting to get in. As December and winter barrel down on New York, it is a hard obstacle to get people to go out, but when you promise open bar and chance to see an iconic New York artist inside an intimate room of one of New York's most iconic venues, and do it on a Thursday, that is called smart planning.
As fans crammed in and tried to thaw, just after 9pm, Moore and his new band hit the stage. Plucking away at their instruments and creating a sound that made you feel like Matthew McConaughey's character in Interstellar floating in outer space, you have to wonder what Moore and his band, dubbed "The Thurston Moore Band," would do next. Nevertheless, as you tried to adjust to his new sound, he brought you back to his world with rabid distortion, thunderous rhythms, and most of all, that indie rock flair that he has had for four decades. Moving on stage as if he was still 20 years old, it is almost as if Moore never aged, his songwriting has stayed the same, his musicianship is still as uncomfortable as ever, but his zest for performing is still there, even for an old punk playing a corporate event. "We are who they say we are," Moore told the crowd before introducing his members, and before jumping into "Detonation," a song he wrote for Chelsea Manning and who he preached to be a hero, it was clear that no matter the circumstances, he was still going to be himself, which is what you love about him. As he and the band performing songs from his solo records, a majority of the former Sonic Youth frontman's set came from their latest album, The Best Day. As fans, new and old, got a chance to see and hear one of their heroes inside a personal setting, it is something that will always be remembered.

Quick News
Modest Mouse have taken to Instagram to showcase that they do indeed have new music coming out. The band premiered part of a new single "Lampshades On Fire," while no firm release has been set, word on the street is that a new record will arrive next year.
Twin Shadow will release his new album, Eclipse, in March.
Speaking to BBC4 Music, Noel Gallagher announced he has an arsenal of unreleased tracks that date back to 1993. He said, "I've had a stockpile of songs since 1993. I've never written for a specific project, I've never been in the studio with less than 30 songs. I've just recorded an album, but I've still got another 30 songs. Instead of writing 15 or 16 songs for a cycle of where [Oasis] were at, we were using five, but I was still writing 15, 20 songs, so there's loads of stuff left over from those days. Albums and albums worth of material. Because you move so fast as a writer, and you can only really do ten songs on an album at a time, lots get left behind." No word if he will ever release these tracks.
Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina are currently in the studio working with Le Tigre's JD Samson. While the band are not working on a full album, Tolokonnikova told NME, "Maybe at some point in the future we will do an album, but right now we want to make videos."

Bob Dylan Details Sinatra Covers Album
This past fall, Bob Dylan announced that he was going to release a new album called Shadows in the Night next year. While the iconic singer was coy on details, they have finally emerged. The record will arrive in February, but most importantly, it will be an album totally of Frank Sinatra covers.
In a press release, Dylan said, "It was a real privilege to make this album. I've wanted to do something like this for a long time but was never brave enough to approach 30-piece complicated arrangements and refine them down for a five-piece band. That's the key to all these performances. We knew these songs extremely well. It was all done live. Maybe one or two takes. No overdubbing. No vocal booths. No headphones. No separate tracking, and, for the most part, mixed as it was recorded. I don't see myself as covering these songs in any way. They've been covered enough. Buried, as a matter a fact. What me and my band are basically doing is uncovering them. Lifting them out of the grave and bringing them into the light of day."
