Let’s keep going. Because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that. So that will be all of next year and probably the year beyond that.”

QUICK SPINS

The Horrors V

With each album, The Horrors find a way to gradually reinvent themselves but stay true to the common core of who they are as a band. The English rockers return with V, their fifth record and their best since 2011’s Skying. The band find groovy undertones will flirting with industrial and new wave on a record that not only hears them mature over time but show they are here to stay.
FINAL GRADE: A-

LCD SoundsystemAmerican Dream

This was a record that should be loathed considering the news that James Murphy and co. staged their infamous 2011 to sell tickets but the truth of the matter is, their “comeback” record is fantastic. It is a ton of fun to listen to and the band find their footing in the years they were away on what is the best LCD Soundsystem album.
FINAL GRADE: A-

The National Sleep Well Beast

The National have become such a massive phenomenon that they no longer stay near each other like they once did in Brooklyn. Singer Matt Berninger has moved to the West Coast and the rest of the band is scattered across the New York tri-state area but after their frontman almost went through a divorce, they gathered in Upstate New York to record one of their most progressive records to date. What makes Sleep Well Beast a National record, aside from the obvious that the band did it, is that it keeps the dark undertones they are known for, however, they push things beyond what anyone expected as they dabble with samples, additional percussion, electronica, and even some industrial sounds to create a chaotic but hypnotizing album. It certainly is the most interesting record in their catalogue but also the hardest to digest.
FINAL GRADE: A-

Wolves in the Throne Room Thrice Woven

The comeback record from one of the most brutal bands of the 21st century does not disappoint. If you want your ears to bleed and heart to pound, this is the record.
FINAL GRADE: B+

Metz Strange Place

The Canadian garage punks return with more thrashing rhythms and chords that just make you want to go out and break something.
FINAL GRADE: B+

Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark – The Punishment of Luxury

The new wave icons return with new material that will be enough to delight their fanbase but they fail to capitalize on trying to make any progress in keeping with 2017. While that is not a bad thing, it would have been nice to hear OMD push themselves a bit more.
FINAL GRADE: B

The Black KidsRookie

After a decade apart, the once indie it band is back with their sophomore album. As they try to win back old fans they manage to show off that they are a new band that still knows how to have fun with the basic elements of rock and roll.
FINAL GRADE: B

Gary Numan - Savage (Songs from a Broken World)

Given the state of the world, it was the perfect time for Gary Numan to come around with new music. Numan has crafted a concept album centered on the blending of Western and Eastern cultures in a post-apocalyptic world that has become a desert as a result of global warming. Given the way things are going, he might have made a soundtrack to what might come.
FINAL GRADE: B

Godspeed! You Black Emperor - Luciferian Towers

The Canadian experimental ensemble returns with more demonic and dark prowess to scare the shit out of you.
FINAL GRADE: B

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard with Mild High ClubSketches of Brunswick East

The hardest working band of the year has released their third and final album of 2017 and this time get some help from fellow Australian’s Mild High Club. Their latest is a love letter to the town they grew up in and is easily the most accessible album for non fans of the band and showcases that King Gizzard can do other things aside from amazing weird shit.
FINAL GARDE: B

Death From AboveOutrage! Is Now

Death From Above have officially dropped 1979 from their moniker and are back with their third record. While Outrage! Is Now has the rawness of previous efforts it fails to back a punch like its predecessors.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Tori Amos Native Invader

The chamber pop princess returns with a record based off of the cycle of life and death and sticks to the infamous script that has gotten her acclaim and devotion over the years.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Living Colour Shade

On their first album in nearly a decade, the Brooklyn metal funk icons return. Living Colour are a national treasure – an underrated one at that and are total unique to the American experiment and experience. They have the best rhythm section in music with one of the greatest living guitarists and singers. Shade, a record about being black in America in 2017 is not only poignant but mandatory listening.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Ted Leo The Hanged Man

The indie icon is back and this time is on a solo mission to show off that he can do all of it on his own. Spoiler alert! He does.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Pains of Being Pure at HeartThe Echo of Pleasure

Four albums in, the New York City darlings are back and continue to make solid indie pop that not only fits into a Michael Cera movie but the soundtrack to your life.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Neil FinnOut of Silence

The former Split Enz and Crowded House singer returns with a brand new solo record that shows like a fine wine, he gets better with age.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Foo Fighters Concrete and Gold

The Foo Fighters were expected to take a longer hiatus than two years when they said they needed a long time off. When the announcement that Concrete and Gold was coming, fans were thrilled but also stunned. The record, which weighs heavily on Dave Grohl’s love of The Beatles, feels rushed at points but also hears them doing things that are unexpected like harmonizing, letting some of the music breathe and not competing with one another. Yet, all of this should make for a fascinating Foo Fighters record but in some areas some of the songs sound flat and rushed while others sound lush and evocative.
FINAL GRADE: B-

The Killers Wonderful Wonderful

There was a time when The Killers were one of America’s most exciting and creative bands. That time has come and gone and over the years, it feels as if the Vegas glam rockers are now just making records for the sake of making them which should never be the case for any band to make music. Wonderful Wonderful not only sounds evident of that theory but is easily forgettable.
FINAL GRADE: C

Ringo Starr Give More Love

While no one asked for a new Ringo record, it isn’t going to stop the iconic drummer. However, what shines on Ringo’s record everyone but him as Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Dave Stewart, Gary Nicholson, all play on the record and elevate his sound.
FINAL GRADE: C

Prophets of Rage

20 years ago, the concept of ¾ of Rage Against the Machine teaming up with Chuck D and B-Real would have been something to love. However, the world doesn’t need this version of Rage, they need RATM. Chuck D’s booming bass vocals can’t keep up with the raw power of what the Rage musicians have in store for him and B-Real, while his flows match, isn’t the lyricist that D or De La Rocha are, therefore the whole record and project sounds disjointed and disorganized.
FINAL GRADE: D

Following an interview with the New York Times this week, the publication said that U2's new album, Songs of Experience, will be out on December 1.

The Times also confirmed that Bjork's yet-to-be-titled new album will be out in November.

Soul singer Charles Bradley has cancelled the rest of his 2017 tour as the 68-year-old will battle cancer. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Death From Above spoke to NME about how they managed to reunite in 2011 and their name change after dropping 1979 from their title. “We’ve realised that Death From Above is just us, plus a couple of pieces of gear,” drummer and vocalist Sebastien Grainger told NME. “It’s not this separate third entity that is mythologised or whatever. We didn’t talk for five years but the band continued to exist and kept working in the background. When we started working on [previous record] ‘The Physical World’, we treated the band as this other thing that we had to respect. Now we don’t – we don’t respect it any more!” As for their name, bassist Jesse Keller said: “A couple of years ago we dropped [1979] from our tour posters. No one noticed so we kept doing it.” Grainger added: "The final straw was when I was making the art for our single ‘Freeze Me’. I wanted to write the name out in ice, so I went on Amazon and ordered an ice cube tray in the alphabet. It came and there were no numbers. That was that.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Foo Fighters confirmed that Justin Timberlake will be on their new album, Concrete and Gold. Also in the interview, singer Dave Grohl opened up about the passing of Chris Cornell earlier this year. He said: "He was a really sweet guy. Full of life. And he had so much to offer. That one hurt. Over the years you sort of count your blessings that you survived, and when you see another one go down ..."

King Krule will release his new album, The Ooze, next month.

During their performance at Bestival in England Saturday night, Q-Tip confirmed that it was A Tribe Called Quest's final gig ever. The group reunited last year for 2016's best album, We Got It From Here... Thank You For Your Service, the iconic hip-hop outfit last key member Phife Dawg during the making of the record and toured most of 2017 without him.

Social media can get you in trouble, just ask The Antlers if you don't believe me. The New York indie band have been on hiatus since 2014 and when a fan asked on Twitter when they could expect the inactivity to go on, their social media handler replied:  “probably forever…sorry dude." A few hours later, The Antlers released a statement clarifying what is going on: "Wanted to give a clarification on a confusing tweet from earlier. As we announced in 2015, the band’s on an extended break while we individual Antlers pursue other projects. While we don’t have immediate plans to make new music, we’ll surely be back when the time is right. Sorry for the false alarm"

A toxicology report has come back in the passing of Chris Cornell who died last month. The report says he had prescription drugs including Naloxone (Narcan), Butalbital, Lorazepam (Ativan), Pseudoephedrine (decongestant) and barbituates in his system at the time of his death. In a statement, his wife, Vicky, responded to the toxicology report saying: "Many of us who know Chris well, noticed that he wasn’t himself during his final hours and that something was very off. We have learned from this report that several substances were found in his system. After so many years of sobriety, this moment of terrible judgement seems to have completely impaired and altered his state of mind.”

Speaking to Beats 1, Dave Grohl has said that he and the members of Them Crooked Vultures -- Josh Homme and John Paul Jones -- do discuss the idea of playing again. He said: "Every once in a while, you’ll be up at night drinking a bottle of wine by yourself, and you’ll watch some Crooked Vultures live thing on YouTube and go, ‘We were so good!,” and then we’ll text each other saying, ‘Miss you man!'” The band released their debut in 2009 and were working on a follow-up to be released in 2011 but it never arrived.

5 Artists That Need To Headline Super Bowl Halftime

Now that Adele has officially declined an invitation to perform during Halftime of Super Bowl LI in Houston in February, the coveted spot is up for grabs.

In recent years we have seen the spectacles of Coldplay with guests Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson; Katy Perry with Left Shark, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot; Bruno Mars with Red Hot Chili Peppers. The spot has even become  haven for classic rockers like The Stones, Prince, Paul McCartney, Springsteen, The Who, U2, Tom Petty and even a sanctum for controversy like Janet Jackson's nip slip.

While the NFL looks to hire an act, we narrowed down a list for them to 5 people we feel deserve the spot.

1. Metallica

Years ago, this idea would not even be a thought. The band would have been believed to be "too hard" or "too controversial" to perform with really no reason to back it up. One of history's most beloved metal bands have had their songs used in almost every sporting arena for every sport in the country. On the day before this past Super Bowl in San Fransisco, they packed AT&T Park for a NFL-sanctioned concert. Now that the audience has gotten older and can handle the music of the band, which really, it is not like they are booking Slayer or Megadeath, it is time give them their long awaited due. For 4 decades, they put on a such a spectacle that they will wow everyone in Texas and at home. Plus, the kids wearing Metallica shirts thanks to Kanye and Justin Bieber will finally learn who they are.

2. Foo Fighters

America's best rock and roll band deserves the nation's biggest stage. The passion, the fury, the anthems that Dave Grohl and Co. have laid out over the years makes them prime contenders. As fans wait for new music from the band, this could be a nice and welcomed break from the studio and hit the stage for a one-off show that will wow the country.

Listen To Our Essential Foo Fighters Playlist on Spotify

3. Jay Z

While many fans tweet for Kanye to play the Bowl, the NFL and its sponsors will probably find him to be a bit risque for the show. Since hip-hop has never headlined the event, now, is not only the time to start they should do it with Jay Z. More hits than one could image, plus a guest list that could see him bring out anyone in the music world. If they are worried about him swearing on stage, the man is a professional and can censor himself. Plus, his wife has done it twice, it is about time he gets to shine.

4. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is known for her stage spectacles, choreography, killer pipes and sheer creative brilliance that a Super Bowl performance from her would be one of the most memorable ever, just based on her resume alone. She dazzled audiences singing the national anthem at the Big Game in San Francisco, she nails every award show she performs in, so why not the Super Bowl?

5. Rihanna

Rihanna has an arsenal of hits and her ANTI World Tour is getting rave reviews, it is time she gets the national spotlight at the Super Bowl. The singer has a guest list of friends that could rival Jay Z's where A-listers will be joining her on stage, should she choose to go it alone. All that and coupled with the fact that one never knows what she is going to do next would make her Super Bowl performance one for the ages.

People always say, ‘How’d you get that sound on Nevermind?’ and 90 percent of it is Dave Grohl… it’s just how Dave plays and he’s just so, so powerful.”

Prince Paul has started a new group with Digable Planets' Ladybug Mecca, Don Newkirk and Brazilian musician Rodrigo Brandao called Broozkill. The band's debut, Throwback to the Future, will be released in October. Take a look at the tracklisting, below:

Quick News

According to reports, Madonna has overtaken Bruce Springsteen as the most successful solo touring artist following the conclusion of her "Rebel Heart World Tour."

Biffy Clyro will release their new album, Ellipsis, in July.

Paul McCartney is set to follow Keith Richards and get aboard the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The icon is set to play a pirate in the upcoming fifth film in the series.

After weeks of rumors, Ian Brown has confirmed that The Stone Roses are working on new music. When approached by an NME producer and asked about upcoming releases, Brown said: "soon" and said it "was like a dream" to be working on new music and that it sounds "glorious."

Metallica, John Coltrane, Santana, George Carlin and Merle Haggard will all have albums preserved by the Library of Congress this year. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement: "Who would've ever thought that 'Master of Puppets', a record made by a band hovering way left of the mainstream in 1986, would be granted the honor of being added to the Registry of the Library of Congress?"

Dave Grohl took to social media on Wednesday to defend a teenage English band that allegedly got in trouble for playing too loud in a practice space in a small town. Grohl tweeted:
Now, the city of Cornwall, England, has responded to the claims. Saying in a statement: "The Council is legally required to investigate once it has received a complaint about noise. In this case we have received a number of complaints about the level of noise. We have not, however, told the band to stop playing or told them they must keep sound levels below 40 decibels. We have not prescribed a set noise level but have advised that the sound levels are currently too high. We have offered to work with them to look at ways of reducing the noise levels by suggesting they look at installing some sound proofing into the garage to address the problem or possibly compromise by looking at playing only at certain times. We have spoken to the owner of the property on three occasions so far and are arranging to visit them to try and identify a solution. We are certainly not trying to stop the band from practising but we have to take into consideration the views of all parties."

Krist Novoselic Playing on New Melvins Record! Details....

In June, Melvins will release their new album, Basses Loaded.

The record  features various bassists including former Nirvana member Krist Novoselic. Other notable axemen on the album include Butthole Surfers' JD Pinkus, Big Business' Jared Warren, Mr. Bungle/Fantômas' Trevor Dunn, and Redd Kross' Steve McDonald.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Buzz Osborne said he tried to get Dave Grohl on the record but it didn't pan out.

Read Our 2013 Interview with Buzz from the Melvins

"That was a really, really funny story. It was before where [the surviving members of Nirvana] played with Paul McCartney. Dave Grohl had said that he wanted to do all that stuff with us. He wanted to do Nirvana songs with the Melvins, and maybe have David Yow singing. So Krist Novoselic came down and we started rehearsing, and Dave was supposed to show up — and he just never showed up. Blew it off, totally. And it was his idea! I didn't appreciate that, you know? I'm a lot of things, but one thing I'm not doing is sitting next to the phone in curlers, waiting for Dave Grohl to call me, you know? When he totally blows you off like that, it's fucked. But whatever. There's nothing I can do about that. So we did some recording with Krist while he was here," he said.

Take a look at the cover, above, and the tracklisting, below and hear the new single "Hideous Woman."
