In March, Between the Buried and Me will release their new album, Automata. Take a look at the cover, above.
Following the sudden passing of Dolores O'Riordan, members of her side project, D.A.R.K., which included Andy Rourke of The Smiths eulogized the front woman. "I am heartbroken and devastated by the news of the sudden and unexpected passing of Dolores," said Rourke. "I have truly enjoyed the years we spent together and feel privileged to call her a close friend. It was a bonus to work with her in our band D.A.R.K. and witness firsthand her breathtaking and unique talent. I will miss her terribly. I send my love and condolences to her family and loved ones." Band mate and partner Olé Koretsky adds: "My friend, partner, and the love of my life is gone. My heart is broken and it is beyond repair. Dolores is beautiful. Her art is beautiful. Her family is beautiful. The energy she continues to radiate is undeniable. I am lost. I miss her so much. I will continue to stumble around this planet for some time knowing well there's no real place for me here now."
Of Montreal will release their new album, White is Relic/Irrealis Mood, in March.
After inking a book deal in 2013, surviving Beastie Boys members Mike D and Ad Rock were set to release their autobiography on the band in 2015, however, it never did. Now, in an interview with Beats 1, Mike D. says the book will arrive later this year and is "unlike any other music book." He added: "To tell our story, we have to give the cultural history of where we came from. So New York City in the ’80s, you had all these incredible, exciting music, art, film, all that sort of has to converge to be able to explain. We just had the good fortune of being around all of it so I think that’s No. 1. And the other thing is, I think a lot of times when I read a book or I watch a music documentary, maybe I’m just kind of A.D.D., I get a little bored, but actually I don’t think they do the subject matter justice because it’s kinda surreal what happens in bands’ lives so you kind of have to use all dimensions to tell the story more accurately."

Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Beats Radio 1 show, Matt Healey of The 1975 announced that the band's new album, Music For Cars, will arrive later this year. "Music for Cars has always been called that, and we were always gonna do a trilogy of records," he said. "And I'm not saying that after this album it's the end of the 1975, but it's definitely the end of an era."
Portugal. The Man have announced that their new album, Woodstock, will arrive in June. The record features production from Danger Mouse, and Beastie Boy Mike D. Take a look at the cover, below:
It has been a big week for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett as the new Gorillaz album, Humanz, has finally arrived and the singer had a massive press week where he dove in on everything from Blur, Gorillaz, and working with Noel Gallagher. So, we will bullet point the highlights:
- As far as a new Blur record goes, the singer said he is unsure if the Britpop band will make another record. He told Rolling Stone: "We’re all really good friends. And I feel like I’ve given many of my best years to Blur, so I don’t feel guilty in that sense. I’ve never said I’d never make another record. It’s all the same thing at the end of the day. It’s the nuances that make it different. It’s just more music, to add to the mountain of music there already is.”
- Hewlett told Exclaim that a Gorillaz animated series is finally in the works and will air next year. "I’ll direct the first and the last one, but we’ll have to get someone in to direct the other episodes. I think even attempting to do it all by myself will kill me." He added: "Everybody does CGI now, and it is great when you’re making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters. I’m still very much inspired by the work of Chuck Jones, and I love that animation. It’s art. I’d like to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters on the show will be 2D, but everything else is up for grabs.”
- Finally, Noel Gallagher revealed to Vulture that he invited Damon Albarn to play on his new solo record but they are unsure if he can do it because it all depends on their schedules. Gallagher, who was once rivals with Albarn, appears on the new Gorillaz album and was asked by Vulture what he thinks his brother, former Oasis singer, Liam Gallagher, would think of him performing on the record, the "Mighty I" singer replied: "Listen, nobody gives a fuck what Liam thinks about anything.”

QUICK SPINS

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Skeleton Tree
If Nick Cave stopped making music after the tragic death of
his teenage son last year, the world would have understood. However, for Cave
to take the darkest chapter in his life and turn it into his greatest album in
decades is something else. This album plays like an Academy Award winning film
that features such heavy subject matter it leaves you tattered, torn and in
hysterics and the fact that he can do this without shedding a tear playing the
songs is something else. A remarkable, heavy record that needs to be heard and
experienced.
FINAL GRADE: A
Beach Slang – A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings
Following their sublime 2015 debut, The Things We Do To Find
People Who Feel Like Us, Philly’s Beach Slang return with a record so good, it
defies the sophomore slump idea. A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings is raw emotion
over a punk rock score. This band is quickly turning out to be a modern version
of The Replacements and we are more than fine with it.
FINAL GRADE: A
Slaves – Take Control
Finally a punk band that are actually punks – UK duo Slaves
return with help from Mike D. of Beastie Boys on deck as the producer for their
sophomore album, Take Control. The record is a loud bash of fuck you to the
system and bring forth the attitude of the genre’s yesteryear.
FINAL GRADE: A
Vince Staples – Prima Donna EP
If this wasn’t an EP it would probably be the hip-hop album
of the year. Staples brings with him the lyrical power and realness the music
world needs right now.
FINAL GRADE: A-
Zomby – Ultra
The grime producer and DJ returns with more hypnotic beats
and adventures into a new world of sound.
FINAL GRADE: A-
Okkervil River – Away
This might be the final Okkervil River album and if it is,
Will Sheff and co. head out on a high note.
FINAL GRADE: B+
Pixies – Head Charger
The iconic band returns with their second album since their
reactivation in 2011 and bring forth their classic sound as well as a new
direction. Incorporating Paz Lenchanten on vocals adds something new to the
mix.
FINAL GRADE: B+
Against Me! – Shape Shift With Me
As Laura Jane Grace becomes her own woman she is documenting
it through her music. Following the brilliant and painful Transgender Dysphoria
Blues, the Florida punks return with the further stages of Grace’s
metamorphosis and how she is dealing with the world around her.
FINAL GRADE: B+
The Lemon Twigs – Do Hollywood
The Long Island art band release their fantastic debut and
show that the land of Billy Joel is so much more than shit show tunes. These
young lads use the influence of The Beatles, Bowie and Zappa to give it a
vaudeville and DIY aesthetic that has not been seen in band in years.
FINAL GRADE: B
Empire of the Sun – Two Vines
The Aussie dance duo brings the noise and party with their
latest. Fans of the band will not be disappointed as new material is added to
their fun arsenal.
FINAL GRADE: B
MIA – AIM
If this is to be the controversial singer and rapper’s final
album, MIA does it with flying colors. AIM is a record that makes the world’s
issue its bullseye and fires dead center without missing. It is the record of
our times and her struggle to be the expressive person she wants. AIM is
without a doubt her finest work since Kala and she leaves us on a high note.
FINAL GRADE: B
Local Natives – Sunlit Youth
The indie favorites are back with a record that doesn’t
change the musical landscape but adds to their collection.
FINAL GRADE: B-
KT Tunstall – KIN
The Scottish singer-songwriter takes a whole new pop
approach to her folk sound and not only does it work, she does it with flying
colors.
FINAL GRADE: B-
Suicidal Tendencies – World Gone Mad
The influential hardcore and thrash icons return with album
No. 12. A new collection for a new era of pain they have developed over the
years.
FINAL GRADE: B-
Bon Iver – 22 A Million
After being seduced by For Emma, Forever Ago, Bon Iver feels
he can do whatever he wants and transform into whatever he wants and get away
with it. His new album is proof that if that is his theory, it is far from the
truth. This latest record is a total mess. The songs are all over the place and
have no coherence due to its lack of soul and feeling.
FINAL GRADE: D

So, this could have been awkward. The upcoming Pixies album, Head Carrier, which features Paz Lenchantin on bass, has a song where she sings about former and original bassist, Kim Deal. In a recent interview with BBC6 Radio, frontman Frank Black said the song is a "thank you letter" to Deal and penned it only if his new axewoman agreed to sing it.
It is being reported that Broken Social Scene will perform new music on their upcoming summer tour and are working on a new record.
Mike D spoke to Rolling Stone about his upcoming Beats 1 Radio show, The Echo Chamber and also discussed the forthcoming 30th anniversary of the Beastie Boys debut, Licensed to Ill. He said he hasn't listened to the record recently and in fact, doesn't listen to his own material. "I don't listen to any of our records. But once in a while, if I'm DJing, I'll go and try to see and listen to the instrumental or something or an a cappella or something and see what's there. I'd say the last time I did it, it was interesting. I don't know. I guess what stood out to me about it … you know, there's obviously a lot of stuff on there that I'd like to never hear again. But there's production on it and songs, we were really on top of something," he said.
Hip-hop duo, The Cool Kids have reunited. In a press release, Chuck Inglish said: "I called Mikey and realized nothing would feel better than us being the originators again." Inglish confirmed that once his is finished with his solo album, he and Mikey Rocks will head back to the studio to record a new album.
Speaking on the Spotify series, Secret Genius, James Blake said he once turned down Drake and ignored rules laid down by Beyonce's people. On her new album, Lemonade, Beyonce and Blake have a song called "Forward," and her camp allegedly gave him lyrics to sing, but he sang his own. "It ended up just being me and an engineer in a room. Him playing me something that just sounded—like the start of something—and I wrote something that was completely against the brief... I've never sung anybody else's lyrics. So I just assumed that's not I was going to be doing. So I got my phone out and sang some of my own lyrics that were about something else and about somebody else. But it fit somehow into the song and it fit into the album, and I'm just honored that they used it," he said. As far as the Drake front, the rapper once asked him for an old beat he had made and Blake said no. Now, the English singer comes clean, saying: "I remember having a conversation with my publisher later, and saying: What did you think of that decision? Because you know that was a massive album. I asked how much money exactly I turned down by doing that. I spat out my drink. But I could have made far more money if I had taken certain opportunities, or gone to the right parties. And actually, I a little bit regretted, because it is good, it sounds good on the track. I just did it as a matter of principle at the time. I really liked it. And I think had they come to me beforehand and said we really want to use this what do you think I probably would have said yes."

10 Hip-Hop Biopics That Need To Happen
As Straight Outta Compton continues to dominate the box office, we got to thinking -- what other biopics on hip-hop artists should be made in the vein of this?
Since Compton shows the raw and artistic side of how biopics should be done as a passion project and not for commercial gain like the dreaded Notorious. As we wait and see if the alleged Tupac film will come, here are 10 that we picked that should be told.
Sure he got a documentary centered around the greatest hip-hop album ever made with Time is Illmatic, but the Queensbridge's emcee's story is so chaotic and curious that a telling of it on the big screen would be something to admire. Especially in the years after Illmatic on how he had to live up to the hype and keep fighting his way to stay relevant and become one of the all-time greats.
2) Beastie Boys
Three white dudes from New York City that started off making hardcore and punk then rapped over rock and roll sounds to help cross the genre over onto the mainstream, MTV and of course, suburbia. Beasties reinvented hip-hop as we know it and forever changed the landscape. Up until Adam "MCA" Yauch's untimely death in 2012 the three emcees and one DJ were still supplying the hits.
They refer to themselves as aliens, they have Andre 3000 who is off the fucking wall and Big Boi who couldn't be more down to Earth -- how did these two craft musical synergy and put Atlanta on the hip-hop map forever? That is the story that needs to be told!
4) Kool Herc
Who says a hip-hop biopic has to be just about rappers? What about the DJ's? In Kool Herc's case, what about the pioneers? This is the man that invented the style in the Bronx 42 years ago and gave the world what we know as hip-hop. What Allan Freed is to rock and roll, Herc is to hip-hop and it's about damn time his story gets put on paper.
5) J Dilla
The Detroit producer died way before his time and when he left us, he left a legacy that will be cherished forever. Dilla worked with everyone from Tribe Called Quest to The Roots to DOOM to Badu and when he did, the world felt his beats and now needs to see his story.
6) Kanye West
The biggest rapper today is Kanye West. Hands down. In fact, the biggest artist in the world that still excites people is Kanye West. While Yeezy may be known for his antics and attitude, hailing from middle class Chicago and dropping out of college isn't something many rapped about before or since his arrive. Yet, nearly dying in a car accident as his career was taking off, West came out stronger, better, faster, than ever and dominated music for over a decade.
7) Wu-Tang Clan
After Straight Outta Compton arrived, Raekwon said he wants a Wu biopic to tell their story. With the nine members of the Shaolin clan, it gives a story with nine characters that bring nine different personalities to the table.
Like Nas, their story was told in the fantastic documentary Beats, Rhymes, and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, yet, with their on-again, off-again status, it is time the Tribe's story gets another shot on screen.
From The Fugees to her solo career, she still remains an enigma that is now known more for her antics than her music. A film about her can rectify all of this.
10) Kendrick Lamar
Not since Kanye bursted onto the scene over a decade ago, Kendrick Lamar has been the best new voice in hip-hop since his arrival. Period. K-Dot has given a voice back to the city of Compton and to black youth across America, and with To Pimp A Butterfly, we are only beginning to see his magic, let's explore where that came from.

Quick News
Speaking to BBC1 The Libertines discussed the making of their new album, which arrives in September. Pete Doherty said, "In a short period of time just before Christmas last year when Carl appeared out of the blue while I was having some treatment to curb my enthusiasms and we spent a bit of time together. We find ourselves picking up guitars at odd times, doing a few tunes and with Carl mucking about, we decided to make music at the end of it!" Carl Barat spoke about the reunion and burying the hatchet, saying, "It's been part of our friendship that we decided to make music again. We communicated through making music anyway."
After the death of Adam "MCA" Yauch, the surviving Beastie Boys members Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and Michael "Mike D" Diamond said they would never make music together again using the name of the group. As if the world needs more reason to realize Dave Grohl is the man. A dying Foo Fighters fan in Australia was just given VIP tickets and passes to see the band in L.A. later this year thanks to Grohl. Ken Powell, a huge Foo Fighters fan, was diagnosed with melanoma 14 years ago and in 2009, it was reported as being fatal. Speaking to NME, Blur's Graham Coxon has said that the band's upcoming album, The Magic Whip, was a way to "make amends" with each other. Coxon said, "Damon and I have an increased respect for each other because of this record, and we're not ashamed to let each other know about that increased respect. But what we also have a lot of history, and our friendship – like any friendship between two people in a band together – has had to go through a lot. It’s been put to the test, and we’ve often let each other down. This record was a way of saying, ‘Sorry for being such a pain in the arse for the last 20 years.'"
Syrian singer Omar Souleyman will release his new album Bahdeni Nami in July. He collaborated with Four Tet and Modeselektor for his latest offering. Take a look at the cover below:
