Movie of the Month - Goal

This maybe a super cheesy pick for a Movie of the Month, but I totally love it. Every August, I try and find a worthwhile soccer film to showcase since the greatest sport on the planet gets back in full swing at the end of the month and new chapters in professional soccer around the world is written. This month's pick Goal, is the first and best of a trilogy of soccer films that follow fictional footballer Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) from jumping the Mexican/US boarder and later being noticed by a former English Premiere scout. Santiago is given the opportunity to try out for England's Newcastle United, as a stranger in a strange land, Santiago learns the highs and lows of what it takes to be a professional athlete. While learning on and off the pitch he is thrust into the sporting lifestyle and the lavish lifestyle of celebrity footballers. Featuring cameo's from the greats such as Zidane, Raul and David Beckham, who will later play a role in the other two films. Very well shot and directed, if you are a soccer fan this is a must see, a true underdog story that will have you cheering from beginning to end. Backed by a great soundtrack that features football fanatics Oasis and Kasabian, Goal is a film that you can experience with anyone.
