Live Review: Blonde Redhead @ Rough Trade
Over 21 years together and nine albums later, Blonde Redhead celebrated the release of their latest record, Barragan, with an intimate hometown concert at Brooklyn's latest music hot spot, Rough Trade. The band who started off as a noise-punk group playing tiny dive bars in New York have established themselves as musical chameleons over the years and their latest offering was no different. In a free concert and meet-and-greet to fans who purchased the new LP at Rough Trade, Blonde Redhead gave their audience a taste of what they can expect when they go home, crack open the plastic and put the needle down on the vinyl record, as well as much more surprises that only a live show can bring.
With the release of Barragan, it hears the seminal City band transform again into a mellow dramatic wave of emotion and subdue vibes that the band got across in concert. Playing for just 30 minutes and only songs from Barragan, Blonde Redhead were clearly still working out the kinks as to how to play these songs live as mistakes, miscues, bum notes, and even vocal issues from singer Kazu Makino plagued the set. Yet, the audience encouraged them more to keep soldiering on, however, with the kinks it added to the effect and importance of a live show. As I told the band after the concert, "This is something you can't get from the record," they laughed and said, "Yes, that is true!" While they rehearse and hit the road this fall in support of Barragan, by that time all of the issues should be ironed out. Until then, the record is enough to keep fans of this band excited for the new chapter in this bands long and evolving career.

Quick News
For the first time in 18 years, Faith No More are recording a new album. While the band confirmed the news today, the record will not arrive until next year. Now, this is epic!
New Order have officially signed with Mute Records, the home of Depeche Mode, Erasure, and M83. The band are prepping a new album and said in a press release, "New Order are delighted to be signing to Mute. We couldn't imagine a better place to be than working with Daniel Miller and his team. Mute has a superb roster of artists and a history that complements our own. In many ways joining the label feels like we are coming home, returning to our independent roots."No word yet as to when the record will arrive.
Taking to social media, Everything Everything have confirmed they are working on a new album, which will arrive next year.
Speaking to NME, Radiohead's Phil Selway discussed the band returning to the studio. He said, "We are starting again in about a month's time. We've decided that now feels right to start making music and we've got the first week booked in together so we'll see how it goes." The band's last release was 2011's The King of Limbs.
Also speaking to NME was Interpol, who ahead of the release of their new album El Pintor, they said they have not spoke to former bassist Carlos D. since he left the band in 2010 after recording their last self-titled record. Drummer Sam Forgarino said, "If I were 10 years younger, maybe I’d go and snoop around, check out what he’s up to, but no, I’m pretty in and out there nowadays. What Carlos brought to the band became a huge part of the sound. You couldn’t take it away. Paul had a lot of respect for that. He knew whatever he did had to respect that. It couldn’t be a template thing.”
Wilco will be celebrating their 20th anniversary together this year and will be releasing their first "Greatest Hits" collection and rarities box set this fall.
Mary J. Blige is working with Disclosure and Sam Smith for her new album, The London Sessions. Speaking to The Observer, Blige said, "The sound in London at the moment is house music. That is what the majority of people are producing their songs like. But the ones that get truly successful are the ones using proper songwriting. And that is exactly what we're trying to do, along with a few other people. But that applies to any genre, not just dance music. You could take the songs off Sam Smith's album, produce them in a completely different way and they would still be a huge success – you could produce them like acid jazz and I still feel like they'd get somewhere." The album is expected to arrive next year.
TV on the Radio have announced that their new album, Seeds, will arrive in November. Take a look at the cover below:

Underrated Classic: Pink Floyd - The Final Cut
Thirty-one years ago in 1983, Pink Floyd released their last album as the collective the world had gotten to know after founding member Syd Barrett departed after the release of their first record. The record, The Final Cut, would be the final Floyd record with bassist, songwriter, and singer Roger Waters and the first recorded without member Richard Wright on keyboards. The Final Cut, sometimes called A Requiem for the Post-War Dream was originally intended to be the soundtrack to the film, The Wall, based on the Floyd record of the same name. Instead, with the Falkins War looming and then eventually taking place during the 1982 recording sessions for the album, it took on a whole new life and Waters crafted a concept record and his sentiments about then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's handling of the war in the Falkins against Argentina and her betrayal to British servicemen. Water's father served in World War II and thus led to the record being a personal fight against Thatcher and her government. With The Final Cut, Waters recorded his manifesto and showed the world what he did as all songs and lyrics are credited to him, and all songs were sung by him with the occasional backing vocal of David Gilmour. When the record was released, it was given mixed reviews and the band opted not to tour behind it and leaving the relationship between Waters and the rest of the founding members of Floyd at an all-time low. Waters would eventually leave the band after the release of the record and resulting Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason to carry on as Pink Floyd which resulted in a massive legal battle with Waters over the rights of the name. Waters would lose out on the deal and Floyd carried on without him until the mid 90's when they stopped recording all together. Now, all these years later, the record still is a haunting reminder about the power of musical storytelling and as we get "New" Pink Floyd material later this year, it will conjure up the memories of what could have been and what was had they continued on with Waters.
Movie of the Month: In the Bedroom
As summer comes to an end and everyone sets off for the fall, one film captured the essence of this season like no other -- 2001's In The Bedroom. The crime drama which boasts an all-star cast featuring Tom Wilkinson, Sissy Spacek, Marissa Tomei, and Nick Stahl. The film takes place in a small fishing village in Maine where Nick Stahl's character, the son of Wilkinson and Spacek, falls in love with a much older, married woman, Tomei. When her husband finds out about the affair, the film takes dark and sinister turns leaving everyone guilty or dead. The film, based off Killings by Andre Dubus, was a hit at Sundance and then went on to be nominated for a slew of Oscars, BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards, including a Globe win for Spacek. With a film of this cast and a story of this caliber, if it has never been seen, even 13 years later or has been seen, it will still give chills.
