When one of the world's most popular voices announced he was going to do an unplugged and intimate tour of clubs in North America, not only did tickets go faster than one could imagine, but for Mika and his fans, it turned into one of the most unique and engaging experiences one could have asked for. Making his Brooklyn debut, Mika packed out the Music Hall of Williamsburg, with even his Grandmother was in attendance, on the second to last show of his current "An Intimate Evening with Mika" Tour. Walking onto the stage just before 10pm, Mika took to his Baby Grand piano and opened with a raw and stripped down version of his pop smash, "Grace Kelly." Immediately it set the tone for the rest of the night, the tone was going to be fun but stripped and reconfigured songs and reinterpretations of what fans ears were accustomed to.
Backed by two multi-instrumentalists, Mika and his mates showed their musicianship, talent and most of all charisma. The key to Mika's success is more than just his music, it is charm and compassion and he wears it on his sleeve. In may ways the British singer is a child dreaming at heart in a grown mans body and his imagination is endless, which is why the combination of his songs and stage presence works so well, not to mention that amazing voice. He would interact with his audience and share stories of his childhood, the meaning behind certain songs, and most of all, it was a way for fans to get to know him better. These gigs show a side of Mika that he cannot express in a big arena or stadium, which is what he is generally accustomed to, so, now with no smoke and mirrors and just a handful of instruments and songs with him, Mika can finally showcase who he really is and it is a person to be admired.
