Movie of the Month - The Fighter

Before The Fighter even arrived in theaters four years ago, we all saw the photos of a gaunt Christian Bale and realized this was not just going to another boxing movie. The 2010 true story family drama centers around local hero and boxer, "Irish" Mickey Ward, played by Mark Wahlberg, and his fuck-up of a brother, Dicky, played by Bale. Dicky was the folk hero boxer in the tight-knit town of Lowell, Massachusetts, but never made it to the big time. Then, his brother, Mickey, has a shot at destiny but it is his family and their inner turmoil that could ruin his chances of his moment in the sun. With an all-star cast that includes Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, and directed by David O. Russell, The Fighter was a hit with audiences and critics alike. Bale would earn a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role, as well as Leo, who would take home a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, in her speech she famously swore live on TV.  The film would still be continued to talk about. Now, as Oscar season ramps up, this gem from four years ago is still a knockout!
