Movie of the Month: 'United'

Every August, the European soccer season begins and as we try and do each time this year, we showcase a film that has to do with "The Beautiful Game." In 2011, director James Strong told the incredible true story of how Manchester United's 1958 squad rose from the ashes following a tragic plane crash in Munich, West Germany with United. United lost eight players after a plane they were chartering crashed in Munich. Twenty-three of the 44 victims, including supporters, employees of the squad and journalists traveling with the team perished. Twenty-one people survived. The film tells the story about how the famous club rebuilt itself out of the tragedy and did whatever they could for their city and the families of the victims. The film, which was produced by the BBC, stars David Tennant, Dougray Scott, and Jack O'Connell. The powerful film echoes what Brazilian soccer club Chapecoense are currently facing following their tragic plane crash last year which took out nearly the whole team.
